Hot on the heels of an epic 2024 Summer Tour show in Secondlife the night before at Commune, Jed and Moonie truck it over to Taniz for an early show on France time! Jed appears to be suffering with a bit of a strained voice, but he powers through and it results in a show with a pretty interesting and unique setlist along with a monster jam. Jed does his best to introduce the show in French, and then opens the festivities with "Doigter" which makes perfect sense. It's the first of several instrumentals in the setlist. In case you thought Jed wasn't gonna rock it, he jumps right into his indie rocker "Always Alone," with it's grungy sound and chord progression. You can tell Jed is trying to balance the energy, as he shifts back to something mellow next, but no complaints because it's the first "Celebrate Instead" in nearly two years (last played 12/20/22)! Another instrumental "The Hairdresser" is up next with its fun whistling, followed by a song from Jed's 'A.I. Halloween' event called "Wasteland." It's actually the first time he's played it since that show, and it's a cool tune that he opens up into a nice jam, which makes it's way through a trippy transition into "Second Hand Smile." It's only the tenth time that one has been played, and it's always interesting to hear this complexly composed, emotional work. To lighten the mood after it, Jed delivers a very nice, slow version of "Forgot To Forget You" to close the set. Second set opens with one more instrumental as Jed is clearly trying to go easy with his voice. This time it's the more recently penned "Equinox," a really nice pastoral composition that has only been played live twice before. Then it's off to the races, as Jed launches into a nice smooth-paced "Rolling Waves" and just keeps on rolling. I guess he really didn't wanna sing, cos he delivers a FIFTY minute jam that works its way through at least six or seven different movements including some really trippy segments and a couple of really rocking moments with dynamic key changes and starts and stops. Usually this type of monster jam is reserved for a venue like Killiney Beach, so it's a real treat and surprise to get something like this at Taniz. I'm not gonna try and describe this jam - just LISTEN to it. It's the kind of jam that will make this show an historic one. You really don't need any more show after that! But nevertheless, Jed slides seamlessly into "Begging For Mercy," and it just feels like the perfect place to land. It's another song that doesn't get a ton of rotation (25 plays and last played on 6/8/23). It's followed with a set closer that we hear plenty, but never get tired of, the tale of a lobsterman's ghost "Geneva Sue." Jed tacks on a Led Zeppelin cover for the encore, the bouncy lament "Hey Hey What Can I Do" which feels like a great way to cap off a really exciting show. Ok, if I didn't make it clear already, this is a MUST listen, and not only because of the amazing 50 minute "Rolling Waves" jam, but also because this show delivers a really interesting set of songs, including several of Jed's instrumentals and some tunes which we really don't hear that often. The soundcheck jam included with this one is also really hot. Don't hesitate - just press play and enjoy!
