View NotesJed Luckless is back at Odeen's, continuing his monthly residency there on the last Wednesday of each month. This is Jed's 8th show at the venue but this time the pool league is not playing, so it's a quiet night, but a small crowd of enthusiastic listeners and a number of online viewers keep the energy level high, and without the usual clamor of the pool league, Jed is able to spread his jam wings a bit more than usual. But you can tell he's prepared for the pool players since he opens with a well known cover, Tom Petty's "American Girl." It's a great way to kicks things off and a perfect tee-up for Jed's "Time & Tide," followed by "Listen To The Angels." It's back to cover tunes next with a take on Led Zeppelin's "Four Sticks" that produces the first big jam of the night, which floats through several movements and includes a "Frere Jacques" tease before it slides nicely into "Ozone Blues." A "Catfish Friend" dedication follows and features a really nice Catfish jam. Jed closes out the set with another cover, the classic "Second That Emotion." Second set begins with "2000 Pikes" which opens up into another great jam that features some nice electric organ, tremelo guitar and fiery riffs from Jed. It segues into the Grateful Dead's "Loser," followed by the title track from Jed's 2010 album "All At Once." Another tune popularized by the Dead is next with the always fun "Good Lovin'" Jed launches into his original "Doesn't" which not only features a strong solo section, but is the perfect launching point for one more deep jam of the night. This one features some groovy rhythms and a nice bassy backbone and transitions into the bouncy bluegrasser "Used To Feel Good" to wrap things up. No encore was performed. This is a hot show at Odeen's featuring some really nice jamming which often gets sidelined at the venue in favor of songs the non jam-band oriented audience knows. There are some good covers here but the jam-rigianls are the highlight. Really nice sound quality on this one with crispy drums and a good mix. Give it a spin and enjoy!
