View NotesJed Luckless returns to Odeen's in Carmel, NY for the sixth time in what has become a monthly residency! Once again, Jed plays during the Wednesday night Pool League, which makes for an interesting juxtaposition. But as Christine the bartender said "You guys have something special going" and sure enough there always seem to be at least a few players who enjoy the show.

Jed opens the show with a fun cover tune, "Dancing In The Streets," and immediately opens it up into a nice long jam before a segue into another cover often played by the Grateful Dead, "El Paso." He shifts to originals after that, with his civil war era epic "2000 Pikes" with another nice improv jam that transitions into the reflective "Own." The GuRGLe era rocker "Stronger Instead" is up next and spawns yet another jam which is paired with Jed's classic "Smile Forever." The bluegrass Phish song "My Sweet One" wraps up the first set.

Second set opens with Jed's frequent jam-vehicle "Rolling Waves," which delivers a rockin jam that surprises with a sudden shift into "Freebird!" Jed would likely never play the "song that shall not be played" if not for one of the pool players requesting it, in jest perhaps, but Jed chooses to honor it. It's then back to the regularly scheduled program with "Always Alone," followed by another Dead tune "Brown Eyed Women." Jed's got one more nice jam in store which comes between "Give  It Back" and David Bowie's "Space Oddity." A quick trip to Tennessee with "Rocky Top" closes the set, and Jed tacks on a fun 80's encore with Tommy Tutone's "867-5309."

For Odeen's this is a very jammy show. You can tell Jed's been trying to balance originals, jams and covers for the crowd at the bar, but more and more he's drifting to his comfy place with Jed favorites and deeper and longer jams. We're looking forward to the first 20+ min jam at Odeen's in the future, but until then, this is a show well worth a listen! Enjoy!
