View NotesIt's Phish Bowl XV!! Jed's annual celebration of the music of the band Phish and the sport of football! It's hard to believe that this is year fifteen! But it's as fun as ever, with it's usual level of pure Super Bowl type spectacle along with an amazing performance by Jed's Phish band Clueless Wallob, making their fourth appearance at Phish Bowl. And of course the presentation of the Phish Bowl Trophy and the crowning of the Phish Bowl Box Pool winners! What a night! The show starts off with the typical over the top Phish Bowl introduction and a bunch of magical facts about the number 15. Jed belts out a nice country-esque version of the National Anthem, complete with fireworks and jet flyover! And then Clueless Wallob is off to the races, kicking things off with the powerful "2001." Mark Mattson takes the mic first with "Birds of a Feather" handing it off next to Kenny Kaufman to lead the band through their first ever take on "The Moma Dance." It opens up into a nice jam that finds it's way into "Prince Caspian," where we get our first listen to Jed on vocals. It's back to Ken for "Back On The Train" which also produces a nice jam before a smooth segue into "Sigma Oasis." The set closer is "Chalkdust Torture." The halftime show features Varda with a back to the 80s tribute that includes "Let's Get Physical," "I've Had The Time of My Life," and a rocking version of Pat Benetar's "Promises In The Dark." The presentation of the Phish Bowl Trophy for best Phish show of 2023 follows, and the trpoy was awarded (of course) to December 31, 2023 at Madison Square Garden, the Gamehendge show. Second set opens with the Ween cover "Roses Are free," which spawns a nice jam that winds down into some ambience before "Piper" emerges. These are both first timers for Clueless Wallob, but they follow it up with their 'origin song' "Turtle In The Clouds." After a brief scoring update, they launch into "Tweezer" which they jam into "Tube." This combo is one of the highlights of the night, with a fun "I Feel The Earth Move" tease in the "Tweezer" jam, and a densely layered and rocking "Tube" jam. The band needs to take a breath after that salvo, which they do with "Strange Design" before bringing things home with "Character Zero" to end regulation. The encore features Pete Martine on "Sleeping Monkey" and a rippin' "Tweezer Reprise" which is always a great way to spike the ending! This is another fantastic Phish Bowl event, with all the usual splendor and a great performance by Clueless Wallob! A must listen for sure. Enjoy!
