View NotesJLB hits the stage at Gonja Land in Second life for the second of two summertime shows in July 2023. You can tell the band is having a blast getting back together for these shows and an eager audience was in attendance cheering them on.

They open with the "obvious opener" as Jed calls it, "Brother Love," a song about weed. The show continues gently into "The Freeze" but then amps up quickly with a nice rendition of Mark Gutenplan's "Remember This Night" that spawns a sweet jam with a rockin riff. A JLB debut emerges from the mist, a song from Jed's Tales of Halloween show called "Orbit." It's a bit iffy being their first attempt at it, but definitely an atmospheric tune with alot of potential. Kenny Kaufman takes the lead for a run down the "Saw Mill River," which packs a nice punch in its jam section. Another newer JLB tune pope up next, the sultry storyteller "La Puerta," which is sure to become a fan favorite. The band tops off the first frame with the bouncy "Forgot To Forget You," in which Jed forsakes the 'clapping part' in favor of a fantastic piano solo from Mark and a bass solo from Ken.

Second set opens with a nice groove oriented version of the powerhouse "Victim Of The Rhythm" which the band extends into a twenty-one minute jam with fiery guitar lines and syncopated rhythms. It segues into the Robert Varkony penned GuRGLe era tune "Wheelbarrow Blues," a nice respite before the band rev up again with "Englishtown" and another great jam featuring dynamic peaks. The song about a Dead show typically transitions into a Grateful Dead song, and this time it's "Women Are Smarter," which may be the first time the band has tried that one. Jed's rock and roller "Old Town Hall" is up next, followed by the nostalgic, uptempo "The Last Show," to close the set. The JLB classic "Queen Lucille" puts an exclamation point on the evening.

This is a fun, high energy show and you can clearly hear how much fun the band is having playing these songs. There's a couple debuts and newer tunes in the mix, and several outstanding jams. It's a must listen...enjoy!
