View NotesIt's Phish Bowl XIV!! Jammin Jed's annual tribute to Phish and Football celebrates its fourteenth year, and the good news is Clueless Wallob is back to join Jed for the festivities this year, with Kenny Kaufman on bass, Mark Mattson on keys and Pete Martine on drums. The event took place as part of Jed's 2023 Winter Tour, on February 10, 2023 at Skytower Stadium, where a crowd of over 75 people was in attendance! Moondance Parx provided the light show, but a technical issue caused the lights to go down for the second half. As always this event is a major production and has all the pomp and circumstance of the Super Bowl mixed with the energy and excitement of a Phish concert! After a great NFL like introduction, we are treated to a nice version of the National Anthem by Jed solo, followed by the traditional flyover with fireworks! The band emerges from the smoke and noise with the Clueless Wallob debut of the Sci-Fi Soldier tune "The Howling," and it's a great way to funk up the evening from the start and Jed even includes samples from the Chilling, Thrilling's "The Dogs!" The classic Phish rocker "Chalkdust Torture" is in the second slot, followed by a powerhouse combo in third and fourth positions of "Sand" and "Free" connected by a juicy jam. Another Clueless debut is up next with "Steam" followed by a fun band favorite "Gumbo." The set closer is yet another debut for the band, the bouncy and appropriate "Backwards Down The Numberline," which as always determines one of the Phish Bowl Box Pool winners! The halftime show this year features the Yokohama Marching Band all the way from Tokyo with their "March Through Time and Space" which includes music from 'Back To The Future,' The Planets by Holst and an original composition by the unit's leader and composer. The band flew in fro the stadium room and landed on the field, marching around the SLCS cheerleaders who performed to the music on the second stage. After the halftime festivities Jed takes the stage again to award the Phish Bowl Trophy for best Phish show of 2022, which was awarded to July 23rd at Bethel Woods Center For The Arts in New York. Second set kicks off with a tribute to the Eagles in "The Birds" from Chilling Thrilling Sounds of the Haunted House, complete with 'They Attack!' samples. Kenny takes the mic for the next two songs, an absolute rocking version of "Mike's Song" paired with a super fun take on "Possum." The beautiful Trey Anastasio song "Lonely Trip" shows up next, followed by the band's theme song "Turtle In The Clouds," from the Kasvot Vaxt show. One really fun thing about Clueless Wallob is their focus on the "alternate" Phish personas like Sci-Fi Soldier, Kasvot Vaxt and Thrilling Chilling Halloween. There hasn't been that much extended jamming in the show, but that changes with the next two tunes as the band pairs together "Bathtub Gin" and "Wolfman's Brother" with some nice type II jamming in each (along with a Burt Baccarch tribute tease from Jed in Bathtub). The set closer, which determined the big winner of the Phish Bowl Box Pool, is one more debut for Clueless, the pounding rocker "Cavern," with it's powerful, upbeat ending adding the perfect exclamation point on the Phish Bowl! The "Bouncing Around The Room" encore adds a nice cool cool down. This is another fantastic outing in one of Jed's longest running, fan favorite traditions! With the addition of Clueless Wallob it absolutely provides a simulated Phish concert experience and the football themed production makes it a great party. A great setlist, a bunch of debuts, some solid jams and a fun halftime show make this a must listen show! Enjoy!
