View NotesJLB March Madness is back for 2023 with the full Jed Luckless Band assembled at The Dome in Secondlife for the first of a four show run in March 2023. It's the band's first show since December '22 so the anticipation level was high and the crowd was ready to rock. With the show being at The Dome, the light show was at it's finest, it being the home turf of light artist Moondance Parx. The show opens with the grungy rocker "Always Alone," followed by the JLB classic "Ozone Blues" and the cautionary tale "Moved To The County," with the band making slight sound adjustments throughout to dial things. In the clean-up position is the fast growing fan favorite "The Last Show," which the band opens up into the first big jam of the night before a segue into the unexpected Gallows Pole" with drummer Pete Martine holding it down Bonham style. The Led Zeppelin song was first played by JLB on 9/23/22 as part of their JLB Trio 'Jed Zeppelin' show. The bouncy "I Love You" is up next, and though it suffers a bit in the mid-section, it lifts up at the end with some nice soloing from Jed. The bluegrasser "Where The Mountains Meet The Sea" closes the first frame. Second set opens in traditional JLB fahsion with an extended "Vicitm Of The Rhythm" that stretches out to nearly twenty minutes and features strong rhtyhmic backbones, searing guitar riffs and several dynamic key changes. It transitions into the Grateful Dead's "Loser" led by Kenny Kaufman and dedidcated to Phil Lesh on his 83rd birthday. Jed's quiet, contemplative "The Birds Don't Know" glides in nicely next before the band picks things up again with one of their favorite covers to play, the Velvet Underground's "Rock And Roll," which also opens up into another improv jam before transitioning into the Bob Dylan tune "She Belongs To Me," with some nice guitar solo work from Mark Gutenplan. It's only the fifth time the band has played this one. The pop-rocker "Still In Luv With U" ends the set, and a super fun St. Patrick's Day encore features the band's debut of Cailidgh Spires' "The Leprechaun Song." This is a solid show with a great setlist and a few really nice jams, and the encore is a fun treat. Enjoy!
