View NotesThe Jed Luckless 2023 Europe Tour comes to a triumphant end with this show at Feed A Smile in Secondlife! As always the show at FAS is a benefit for Kenyan children, and in particular this show raised money for a new water system for the kids! Of course Jed raised the roof for the audience too! The show opens on a peppy note with the bluesy instrumental "GuRGLe Shuffe," followed by the sentimental "Barter Creek." Jed treats the crowd to the live debut of a tune written in the 1990's called "Hard To See" which reflects Jed's first exposure as a kid to the perils of life in the big city. The eccentric "Mr. Beaman" is up next, and it uncharacteristically opens up into the first big jam of the night which has a cool syncopated rhythm with an interesting time signature. It winds its way into another live debut of a song called "Days As Kind." The up-tempo Gratedul Dead tune "Cumberland Blues" closes out the first frame. Second set starts off with a song from Jed's Tales of Halloween Past, the swashbuckling "Pirate Chaser" which spawns a nice long jam that features pipe organ with synth guitars and sails through an ambient fog into the somber "Cold Dark Winter." "Someday Be Me" appears next, a rarity from Jed's 'Slip And Fall' days only played live twice before, both in 2021. It also produces a hot jam with layered keys and guitars that create a nice musical pastiche. The reflective "Own" emerges from the jam, followed by "Take Another Look," from Jed's 'Surekill Distressway' era, to close the set. In keeping with encores on this tour that mention places in America, Jed wraps up the tour with the popular "Me And Bobby McGee." This is an energetic show with an interesting setlist, a few live debuts, and several tasty jams. You can tell Jed is trying to milk all he can out of the tour closer knowing it's the last show for a while. Definitely worth a listen. Enjoy!
