View NotesJammin Jed's 2023 Europe Tour makes one last stop in France with a return to the shoreline stage at The Night Owl! Once again Moondance and the light rig didn't make customs, but a great crowd raised the energy on the beach and Jed delivers a top nothc rocker of a show with an outstanding second set. Jed kicks things off with the prog rocker "Water Glass" which is always a strong opener with its guitar heavy solo section ramping things up quickly. The newer original "La Puerta" is up next with its interesting tale of Mexican adventure. The bouncy "Back Again" off Jed's 2010 "All At Once" album is in the third slot, followed by Gary Tyler's heavy hitting "Stronger Instead" to bat at clean-up. It hits a home run here, with the first extended jam of the night, a bopping rhythm with organ solos and a fun Frere Jacques tease on guitar. It slides right into another GuRGLe era tune, Robert Varkony's "Wheelbarrow Blues." Jed tacks on one more GuRGLe tune, his live solo debut of Rob's zoomy instrumental "Cadillac." The set closer is the always fun Phish tour commentary "Ass Gas Or Grass." Second set continues the 'car' theme with Jed's supercharged instrumental "Maserati," which goes turbo with a spectacular jam that features a high speed loop jam with a cool key solo and some great meoldic gutiar work. But just when you think it's slowing down, Jed shifts to the drums and delivers a rare drum solo before a sublime segue into "Listen To Nature" from his 2022 Tales of Halloween show. He takes a breather for a moment with another cut off the "All At Once" album, the somber "Sunlight," before launching into a powerhouse closing combo of Mark Gutenplan's "Englishtown" and the Beatle's "Dear Prudence." It's the perfect capper on an amazing five song set. Jed rolls out the Grateful Dead's "Friend Of The Devil" to continue his 'America' themed encores. This is an exceptional show that will surely fly under the radar as far as venue and lightshow, and being in the middle of the tour. But it might just be the best show on the docket, well worth several listens for the solid GuRGLe heavy first set and the exceptional second frame with it's monster "Maserati," rare drum solo, and super high energy closers. Enjoy!
