JLB is back for the second show of their 2023 March Madness run at The Dome in Secondlife! An energetic crowd turned out on a Wednesday night to hear the band rock and see the amazing light show by Moondance Parx. Pete Martine was a little late getting to the show, so the audience is treated to a brief acoustic set from Jed, Ken and Mark. It's always fun when the band has to pivot and it usually ends up being something special. This is no exception, as the crowd gets to hear three JLB original debuts as a result! The trio opens with the contemplative "All The Same," followed by a tune the band has played before, but only once or twice, a song called "It Ain't Living." In the third slot is the pastoral and hopeful "Open Road," followed by a random Ken pick, "Hollywood Blues," a song from Jed's Tales of Halloweens Past which was only ever played once before on Halloween. Before they can launch into another tune, Pete shows up and things get real! After a short break, the band launches into the Kenny Kaufman song "Saw Mill River," with it's middle jam section opening up a bit and then transitioning nicely into Jed's "The Freeze." A dedication to Pete's recently passed dog Sadie is up next with "Geneva Sue," followed by the Mark Gutenplan tune "Road Trip." Fan favorite "Sugar Pop" pops up next and extends into a nice jam that struggles its way back into the "Saw Mill River Reprise" to close the first set. Second set opens with some octane as they band takes the "Maserati" for a long spin resulting in the longest jam of the night. When it finally pulls over, the somber "Listen To The Angels" rises. A brief romp through the "Far Gone Blues" is up next, before the band launches into one of their favorite jam vehicles "Give It Back." Its usually a second set opener, but finds its groove nicely in the middle of the set, and pairs well with Jed's arabic instrumental "Valley Of The Saints." The bouncy bluegrasser "Used To Feel Good" closes the set with some nice solos from Mark and Ken. The encore is the JLB debut of a fun Cailidgh Spires song called "Stuff To Do." This is a tight show with an absolutely classic JLB setlist with the band sticking to beloved favorites throughout. There's no cover songs in this show, unless you count the Cailidgh Spires encore, so it's all JLB all the way. The jams are killer and the energy level is dialed in just right. Pete Martine, though late, is on fire the whole time he is there, and the JLB trio treats us to a few new tunes that we hope to hear again with the full band. This is a show with a great feel, and well worth a listen. Enjoy!
