View NotesThe Jed Luckless 2023 Winter Tour makes a stop at one of Jed and Moonie's favorite places to play, The Mumbling Goat! It's always a great setup on the sky field there, and always a great crowd in attendance. Jed kicks things off nicely with "Far Gone Blues," but ramps up quickly with the poignant "I Love You" and an early improv jam which features wah-wah rhythms and lofty guitar lines before a segue into the emotional "Feel." Things get quiet for a moment with the introspective "All The Same," before erupting again with a prehistoric tune from Jed's Halloweens Past show, "Look Out Here Comes A Comet!" The bouncy tune of love lost "Jackie" is next with a brief explanation of its origin, and the first cover tune of the night closes the set, Smokey Robinsion's "Second That Emotion." Second set storms out of the gates with the progger "Multiply," opening up into a 23+ minute jam the slides into a moving rendition of "End Of Time," probably the best live version of the tune to date. "On The Shelf" off Jed's 2011 album "All At Once" is up next, with another nice imrpov jam with some warpy synth leads. When it winds down, we're not quite sure where Jed is going, but he surprise the crowd with a cover of Nena's "99 Red Balloons" as a sort of nod at the Chinese white balloon incident that had occured that week. Another cut off the "All At Once" album follows, a sketcy version of the bluesy "Lead Me" which gives way to a fun set closer, the upbeat "Forgot To Forget You," complete with the usual clapping tutorial. A very nice encore features the Rolling Stones "Shine A Light." Included here is also a Jed's pre-show soundcheck jam. This is a typical Goat show, which is to say relaxed, confident with super high energy music and jams. The "Multiply" and "End Of Time" pairing is particularly worthy of a listen, but you won't regert spinning this whole show. Enjoy!
