View NotesIt's Jammin Jed's annual Holiday Revue! The Jed Luckless 2019 Holiday Revue is the 11th concert in the series, and this year's charity is a fun one, the National Railway Historic Society. Train whistles and sounds abound throughout and as always Jed plays some of your favorite holiday classics, as well as a numer of new holiday originals.
After a brief introduction and the blast of a steam train whistle, Jed kicks things off with his short original "Presents Are Fun," which sets a gfreat light mood for the evening. It's followed by an upbeat version of "Here Comes Santa Claus" during which Jed eschews his usual disclaimer about Santa's arrival. The Burl Ives classic "Holly Jolly Christmas" is up next, followed by a pairing of "The Grinch" and "The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year," joined by a nice sleighbell jam and featuring Jed on drums during "Most Wonderful Time." A fun new holiday original called "Merry Christmas Asshole" debuts next and is sure to be an instant fan favorite. Jed rolls out another original debut with the poignant "Christmas Night," before returning to the classics for a set closing "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer," complete with a hysterical Inside Edition look at the reindeer games. Setbreak includes interviews with railroad engineers and a medley of locomotive sounds.
Second set opens with a long 24 minute stretch of music featuring another new original called "Glogg Glogg," about spending the holiday with the families, with an extended jam that finds its way into a Coltrane style version of "My Favorite Things" featuring some cool prog-rock type synth. "Little Drummer Boy" is up next, which of course finds Jed on th drum kit. It's followed by a reggae treated "Joy To The World" and the always fun "Heat and Snow Miser," from the classic "Year Without A Santa Claus" animation. Jed's quintessential set ending combo of "First Noel" into "Auld lang Syne" brings things almost to completion, with the addition of the bookending "Presents Are Done" to officially close the second frame. A "Blue Christmas" encore puts a final exclamation on the festivities.
It's hard to believe Jed's been at this for over a decade now, and still manages to keep it so fresh every year, with new tunes and new treatments of the classics. This one features several original debuts, a few nice jams and some fun storytelling. And all for a great cause. Choo Choo! Enjoy!
