The Jed Luckless 2019 World Tour returns to the United Kingdom for a stop at the beautiful New Brighton Pier venue in Secondlife! Coming off a wild show in Germany at Feed A Smile the night before, the anticipation was palpable at this show which took place on May 22, 2019. The setting was just right, with an intimate crowd at the outset that grew to quite a throng by the end of the show. After the brief introduction, Jed kicks things off with the first of three "British Invasion" inspired tunes, the Beatle's "I've Got A Feeling." It's really the perfect opener and Jed lays down a nice groove that he keeps going right into the second song, his original "Lead Me" off the 2010 "All At Once" album. He keeps up the originals, with the fan favorite "Moved To The Country," which has an extended opening featuring a nice "Baba O'Riley" tease and an extended end jam that swings with Jed hitting the drums and keys. Incidentally, "Moved To The Country" is only the second song to repeat during the entire tour, and it happens to segue into the third repeat of the tour, the relatively new Jed original "Hurtful Things," with a reggae kind of feel. The summertime funster "Geneva Sue" drifts in next, followed by a British Invasion set closer, the Who's "Behind Blue Eyes," featuring a Pink Floyd tease at the start and a rocking Townsend style guitar solo from Jed at the end. The show continues to flow right along, with Jed opening the second set with the very typical "Victim Of The Rhythm" and "Smile Forever" pairing. The VOTR in particular is quite good, with a jam that extends over the 20 minute mark and includes a Led Zepplin nod. A rare original called "Mr. Beaman" comes next, in honor of the show poster's family crest depiction. It's an interesting, unrecorded tune with multiple sections, and it's only been played four times live by Jed. He follows it up by including yet another piece from one of his Sight & Sound shows on the tour, this time "Barrier Reef" from Miraculum. Jed completes the British Invasion trifecta with the Rolling Stones "Shine A Light" which seems like the perfect ending to the concert. While the show the night before seemed out of time and space, this one seems to fit perfectly where and when it is. The setlist flows from start to finish, connected by a British theme, woven with meaningful songs and laced with intricate jams. Enjoy!
