View NotesThe Jed Luckless Band is back! After more than five months away, Ken, Mark, Pete and Jed return to the Jedstead stage for their 2019 March Madness residency. It's a follow up to last year's March run at the same venue, Nantucket Yacht Club, and like the previous year, the run features three weekly shows. The band eases into things with "Far Gone Blues," then immediately kicks it up a notch with Mark Gutenplan's "Englishtown" producing the first jam of the evening, which winds it's way into the appropriately paired "Jack Straw," one of the earliest Grateful Dead tunes played by JLB. A dedication to "Widget" the dog is next with a fun version of Jed's "Brother Love" followed by a dramatic "Ozone Blues" which uncharacteristically spawns a nice improv jam before sliding into Mark's sentimental "Remember This Night." The end jam of RTN features some sweet guitar riffs from Jed and dexterous drumming from Pete Martine. Kenny Kaufman gets in on the action next with his rocker "Saw Mill River" to end the first set. Second set opens with the steadfast "Victim Of The Rhythm" which includes the longest jam of the night, which starts out as a raunchy prog-rocker, then shifts into a funky refrain that moves effortlessly into the Phish tune "Sand." It's a favorite of JLB, and this one has a nice solo section complete with theramin. The band shares a lesson on location next with "Moved To The Country," followed by Jed's pop-rock "Still In Luv With U," which also features an uncharacteristic end jam with some nice vocals and some soaring melodies. The fellas tone it down for a minute with the poignant "Smile Forever," but kick it right back up to end the set with a standalone "Sugar Pop." The summertime shanty "Geneva Sue" provides a fun encore. It's great to have the JLB back, playing their classics and jamming like they do. Definitely a show worthy of a listen, especially the first set Ozone jam and the second set Victim/Sand combo. Enjoy!
