Here's the closing show from Jammin' Jed's "500 Tour" in 2018 which celebrated his 500th show. This one too place on the beach at Commune Utopia in Secondlife on a chilly December evening leading up the holidays. It opens appropriately with "Presents Are Fun," an original Christmas ditty from Jed, but slides quickly into his rocker "The Need For Love," which features some nice guitar tone up front. The quiet "Some Notes on Lying," follows and as always casts a reflective shadow. Jed fires up his cannabis anthem "Brother Love" next, and it atypically morphs into a nice long jam, a rocking segment that you wish went on a little longer. But instead it transitions nicely into Jed's cautionary tale "Moved To The Country." A combo of rarities end the set, two songs from Jed's "Luna" suite, an instrumental song called "The Caravan" and it's companion piece, the suite's title track "Luna." The former is a nice treat, the latter, as usual, is a little tougher for Jed to replicate live. But he gives it a good shot, and it ends the first set on a nice note. Things heat up in second set, starting with an extended version of Jed's bouncy original "Doesn't" which features a nice solo section in the middle and then a rockin improv featuring some nice synthesizer work from Jed. The transition into "Secret Language" is perfect and it's a powerful soliloquized version of the intended duet. A fun version of "On Hold" comes net with Jed imitating the hold music that inspired it. It opens up into a nice extended jam that features a few Christmas teases including "Greensleeves" and "Little Drummer Boy," which appropriately leads into a very cool "drum circle" that takes us somewhere far away before bringing us back to the "On Hold" solo. When the song finally fades, we hear piano emerge, as Jed launches into a very rare "You Touched Me," played entirely on the ivories alone. It's a beautiful song and an interesting departure for Jed in a show that really highlights his multi-instrumentalist talents. It's back to the guitar and the fun with the set closer, a romp through Phish tour with "Ass Gas or Grass." The encore features a preview of Jed's upcoming Holiday show with a bouncy rendition of "The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year," followed by the show's bookend "Presents Are Done" putting an exclamation point on an awesome evening! This is a gem of a show from the Jed Luckless '500 Tour' with some rarities, some great jams and a lot of different instrumentation from Jammin' Jed. Definitely worth a listen. Enjoy!
