View NotesIt's Phish Bowl IX! This is the ninth outing in the super phun annual series that Jed Luckless has hosted since 2009, and it's as good as ever this year, with a great mix of tunes a funny halftime show and some killer Phish jams delivered by Jammin Jed. The show starts off as always with a big Phish Bowl introduction, and this year's production is great with top notch audio and narration. The Star-Spangled Banner follows, sung by Jed, complete with fireworks and flyover, after which he lurches into the show with the moody "Sanity." It's an unexpected opener for the players in the annual Setlist Box Pool, but it sets the moody for a quirky show to follow. The pace picks up with "Punch You In The Eye," during which Jed eschews the traditional "Landlady" treatment and instead inserts "Icculus" which seems to fit the mood perfectly. After a quick bit of Phish Bowl trivia and a box pool score update, Jed's off an running again with a nice extended "Twenty Years Later" followed by the obligatory Bob Marley tune which is "One Love" this year. A few more "quirky" ones round out the set, including "Nellie Kane," "Yarmouth Road," and the first set closer "Devotion To A Dream." The Phish Bowl IX halftime show features the SNL Players with some classic Super Bowl related sketches, and a recorded "reunion" performance by classic NYC jam band "The Other Half." The Trophy Presentation is as dramatic as ever, with 7/25/17 at MSG taking home the prize for best Phish show of 2017. Second Set opens strongly with "Crosseyed & Painless" which Jed takes into exploratory territory for over twenty minutes of jam before landing nicely in "Lengthwise" the Jon Fishman tidbit. Jed doesn't stop there though, he continues on for another nineteen minutes of music including "Everything's Right," and "Undermind." A bust out "Billy Breathes" wraps up the segment before a quick Phish Bowl score update. "Water in the Sky" picks up the set again, before a rocking "Pebbles and Marbles" closes it. A "Farmhouse" encore is tacked on the end and that wraps it up! Phish Bowl IX is another awesome entry in the series, full of interesting song choices, tasty jams and alot of fun along the way! Enjoy!
