View NotesNotes: - Probably a cassette master with a cassette generation, maybe two. It's possible the sets are from different sources, as the channels needed to be corrected for the 1st set and the pitch changed for the 2nd set - Thanks to Charlie Miller for this upgrade, which he found hidden away on a harddrive - Thanks to the Oade's for the Schoeps CMC4 MK41 source which supplies the first 0:08 of "Friend Of The Devil", the set break announcemnet, some crowd and the first few notes of "I Need A Miracle" (0:13 total), as well as "Drums > Space" and the beginning of "The Wheel (11:17 total) - This transcription includes the "US Blues" encore - Pitch corrected Mastered by Scott Clugston April 2020

XLII tapes BX-300 w/o Dolby on playback > Philips standalone CDR > CDWav to split and encode as Flac (level 5).
Taper Notes:
View NotesThis is likely from the same source as the ciruclating soundboards, but without the apparent Dolby Abuse on the others. Discussing it with the friend I got this from, we think it's no more than 4 or 5 generations. Obvious care was exercised in handing this down the line... probably nothing but Maxells and Nakamichi cassette decks were used. It sounds very nice! Except for: ## --there is a very unfortunate cut in She Belongs to Me at 4:06.56, which lasted for 5.48 seconds. It appears that someone forgot to "pop the top" off their cassette, so I suspect it's not present on the master (wherever that might be). --there is some "rolling hiss" at the beginning of Miracle. Chalk this one up to the ravages of time on cassettes. ** --segments of Drums and Space are obviously missing. The right channel is missing for a few seconds at the beginning of Space. There is a cut between Space and the intro to The Wheel. I have made no attempts at patching these. --there is no tuning or crowd noise at end of set 1, beginning of set 2 or before the encore. All the songs are there in full, however. My hope is that this seed will get people to check their cassette collections. Does anyone have a better version of this?

View Notes----------------------------------------------------------- Okay, here's the damage I (un)did to this source. I patched in the missing space from Doug Oade's excellent recording. In order to match the levels with Drums at the beginning and Wheel at the end, I had to put up with a certain amount of clipping on the drums during the space set - just where the snares are hit really hard. It's worth it, though, first to make the transitions smoother, second to illustrate how an AUD can shine. Doug Oade was obviously not using any limiter, which Amy probably was, at least for her recording - you can instantly tell the difference in clarity. A local soundman friend of mine once told me, "I don't mix for tapes, I mix for the room". Soundboard snobs take heed! I also eliminated a short gap at the end of The Wheel, restoring the seamless transition into Stella Blue. The gap was possibly a TAO artifact. The US Blues encore from the original fileset is probably also from the Oade AUD. Bill Tetzeli ([email protected]) 3/23/2006 -----------------------------------------------------------

View NotesNotes: - 2 patches were made to compensate for tape flips using the Oade AUD source (SHNID=23848) on track d1t08 (08:33-09:05) and track d3t03 (06:38-07:23). - There were SBE's and they were fixed and verified with Trader's Little Helper. - Files were encoded @ level 6. - Mark's personal photos from 4/4/85 at the Biltmore Hotel and a CD cover are included with this fileset. - Mark asked each band member separately to play Crazy Fingers. He really bugged Jerry in the hotel elevator on the way to the show. He told them about being shut out of Richmond '83 (last time played) and wanting them to play it. They all said they'd talk to the other band members. And so it was...
