Taper Notes:
View NotesI really don't know the exact lineage but they were drawn from the multitracks. All I know is these were dubs from Jerry's own reels back in early 1979. They were probably "work tapes" for the film soundtrack. I'm convinced these have not seen the light of day until now. Reason being at the time(late 70's) the circulating sources for this run of shows was drawn from cassettes via Rob Bertrando so when Will Boswell dubbed these everyone already had them in pretty good quality and keep in mind this was before tape trading was organized to the point that one could "pick and choose" the way it is now. Besides, Wilson was starting up a family during that period so as every father knows, things have to take a back seat for a period of time in order to raise kids so they sat in his workshop until I borrowed them around 2007 . If you want a version that "puts you there", these are it as the reel sources for this run of shows are incredibly clean with nice bottom and fairly rich highs esp. the 24/96 version.. Just hear the "warm" tone of Jerry's guitar during 'Morning Dew' and you'll soon realize how nice these really are!! - Matt Smith December 31, 2010
