This short practice session was intended to get the 2 new players (Matt and RC, students of Charles at FSU) familiar with song starts, changes and stops for the next gig. Matt was a wonderfully gifted bass player; RC was, in his own words, a little nervous on stage. As I recall, a couple of the guys were a bit short with RC during the previous gig and that didn't help his confidence. All that lead up to the "No Frownin On Stage" talk. Early on during this session, you could tell Charles had his agenda (see track 8), and things start to heat up as Charles opens up his pipes. 

The voices in the backtalk are usually Harty wheedling about the set list or something, and Larry keeping everything hepped up. You might hear me on occasion, as in "tape rolling." My apologies for any late starts, pops or hisses, lost parts, or faulty recollections. I left the talk in as some of it is interesting, and I boosted the sound on the talk parts so those have some background tape hiss. This is the first tape I digitized because one, I love the songs at the end, and two, it was the first tape in the box. Tapes are in pristine condition and I am using the original JVC TD-W707 deck. All us Blues Boys had one of these. 

The progression of tracks 10, 11, 12/13 and 14 is just amazing. My Eyes Couldn't Cry - Charles called this a folk song, meaning it was based on his life. Don't miss the story after. To the best of my knowledge, like many of his own copyrighted tunes in these practice sessions, it was never sung in public or recorded again. Charles closes by showing his gospel side with Miracles Live In Me. As he says after - WHEW!
