View NotesPlayers: Charles Atkins - keyboards and vocals The Blues Boys Larry Laseur - harmonica Harty Wiedemann - guitar Tom Henning - guitar with Matt Thiebault - bass & RC - drums This is a little different tonight, a bit jazzier, in part I think because Matt Thiebault is playing his fretless bass. He sure is fired up. As is Charles and he starts right out with a new song, him and Mr Rhodes, a great song - Everyone Wanna Get Married. There is some feedback midway thru while the harp gets adjusted; and Tom gets lots of space for guitar solos. After that - Caught Up in the Rapture of Love - sort of a Stevie Wonder type song, not that I know much about pop or contemporary music. Track 3 - God Bless the Child - is cool; it really showcases Matt's bass work, and of course Charles responds. A House is Not a Home doesn't do much for me, and then it's back to the blues with Little Run-around, but that is a little off too, either that or it doesn't fit with the other songs so far. There must have been other songs played but not recorded since the tape jumps to an ending jam. Profusion is Matt starting a line; Charles and Harty are talking at first but when RC starts drumming, the guitar gets into and then Charles on the keys. Nice piece. So, now the second part of the session - it's after midnight but Charles wants to play some children's songs. I guess Matt and RC have left, and the Boys are talking in the back. Unfortunately they were near an open mic so it distracts somewhat. Fast Horse is a hoot, the clippity clops and all. Hush-a-bye, that's me on the second take talking about how hypnotic the song is; way cool how the vocals mesh with the sound of the Rhodes. I suggest the Horse song again but Charles lost the rhythm on it so he keeps poking around till I mention Vegetables (I had a list of song titles and other things Charles said or wanted to do). The first 2 takes he is making it up and then the last one - Eat Your Vegetables - is a blast with Larry rumbling around in it and both cracking up. Going thru my notes, I discovered that I am missing the tape for next week's session, 6-10-93. Notes say it was Matt & RC, and Baker. So that's 2 drummers plus some lady named Yvette who sang Hit the Road Jack, Rapture, and God Bless the Child. Too bad the tape is gone.
