View NotesPlayers: Charles Atkins - keyboards and vocals The Blues Boys Larry Laseur - harmonica Harty Wiedemann - guitar Tom Henning - guitar Notes: Short session tonight - 3 slow covers and then 3 energetic originals. I think the night started with Charles practicing a song - Caught Up in the Rapture - that he was to perform at a wedding. The covers are mostly run-thrus and I am lax on the tape starts, so usually I would fade in on tape. As the Years Go Passing BY, short version but great. You can tell right off that Charles is going to sing up a storm tonight. Track 2 - Nothing Takes the Place of You - is another outstanding run-thru. This take has a stop midway but closes strong. I could listen to Charles do these slow ones for hours. Summertime - this is supposed to be a walk-thru to show changes but Charles can't help but sing it, play it, and once he's going, Larry has to work to find space to get his parts in. Next is the originals, starting with After the Storm - Charles and Larry having fun on the vamp. Track 5 - Light Up Above - Charles loves to pump the Rhodes on this; Larry loves clapping rhythms and harmonizing and maybe blows 1 lick the whole time, right at the end. Harty comes in for a solo eventually. Save the Children has a walkthru on Track 6, complete version on track 7. A guitar (Tom?) unplugs right off and it's mostly Charles, with a late solo by Harty. The tape stops after this but it sounds like Charles is doing an intro to another song. Don't know why I stopped taping. Coming up soon is a new guitar player; and only 2 months more till Tom pulls out and we lose the great practice room. Looking back to the first session I posted here, 3-7-93, I'm amazed by all the music Charles and the Boys did in just a few months.
