View NotesHighlights: Tracks 2 3 6 12 20 23 Players: Charles Atkins - keyboards and vocals The Blues Boys Larry Laseur - harmonica Harty Wiedemann - guitar Tom Henning - guitar with Matt Thibeault - bass & RC - drums This evening starts out with Charles solo with 2 new songs while waiting for the boys to shuffle in - Blues Train (with the second take much faster) and then Midnite Lover. Charles is quite pleased to get it down on tape. So Matt and RC arrive and my notes have 2 takes on some jazzy thing by Matt but alas it did not make it to tape. Sit In is a hoot with the jump up on each turnaround. The guitar lead is a bit off but that is not unusual in practice with new material. This leads to a series of covers that they are getting down pretty good. Unchain My Heart was always a fav of mine. What Does It Take is a challenge. 2nd take is going good until Charles offends Larry by asking what harp he is blowing. Larry sits the next take out and plays cowbell instead - which is cool, adds to the rhythm. This is followed by Thrill Up On the Hill which may actually be called Let's Go but I tend to go with names I can remember, like All Around the World becomes Grits Ain't Groceries or just Grits. Larry is back on harp for As The Years Go Passing By which is a great slow song for Charles. Matt's bass playing stands out. This is followed by 2 originals from Animal Called the Blues and finally, the fun spot of the night. Charles is sitting at the keyboard while the boys talk around, saying goodbyes and such. He starts noodling some and then me running out the tape just happened to mention Hey Charles I have 60 seconds of tape left and here it comes -- 60 Second Lover -- made up just then to fill that 60 seconds. July 2008 Thanks to the Archives, Bernie Powers, the original Blues Boy bass player found Charles again and they are writing songs and hope to record. Enjoy this one! SCopeland
