View NotesHighlights: tracks 1, 4, 9, 18 Players: Charles Atkins - keyboards and vocals The Blues Boys Larry Laseur - harmonica Harty Wiedemann - guitar Tom Henning - guitar with Matt Thibeault - bass & RC - drums This session starts out with Charles solo on As the Years Go Passing By; probably the slowest version I ever heard him do. Really short but great stuff. The quietude seems to carry over to track 2 with all the boys now playing. Don't know how it happened but I seem to have gotten a better mix all around on this night. After Stormy Monday, Charles takes them back to his first song; walks thru the bass line with Matt once; and then they do it again, but at a better tempo. Some good bass work by Matt. Sun Rises in the East gets done twice, track 6 a bit better. Sorry for all the late starts or too soon endings; I was probably trying to save tape :) Sit In is a song the band made up, probably in the previous month or 2; it was still evolving as you will hear in later sessions. Track 9 is the hyper-speed ending. This is followed by a band standard - Green Grass. A funny discussion after track 12 when Harty tells Charles it should have been done in E, not B or something; hard to hear it, but Charles has a good laugh. Great cover of Sloppy Drunk - they all loose and having fun now. Followed by Stop Leading Me On - a couple walk-thrus with track 16 the most complete. The session closes with Stop Dogging Me Around - good take with lots of room for all the boys to play with it, altho Harty steps all over Larry's solo. And Larry responds by sitting out. Ahhh musicians - gotta love' em. He does come back for the last take tho; too bad the tape was late but an extended ending makes up for it. Sept 2008 Getting down to the last of the practice sessions. Enjoy! SCopeland
