New YearÕs with the Grateful Dead was not only legendary (people traveled the world-over to be there) it was also BillÕs Annual gift to all who attended and he always threw the biggest, and the best, events; The atmosphere was always of celebration and revelry and even without Bill in person, his presence presided over the event with a warm embrace. 1991 was a strong taping year for me personally after coming off a difficult 1990. The rig we were rolling with this evening was consistently capturing an unrivaled accuracy and a robust sound; Technique was certainly a part of that equation as well. New Years is customarily taken as a night off for tapers (usually because the broadcast sounds better) and up until this evening that had always been the case for me; For some reason I felt strongly that an audience representation of this evening had to be made, so here it is. There has been no adulteration to these tapes/recordings; No indexing, editing or dynamics of any type has been introduced into the audio signal path of these 16bit 48kHz digital files. These are exactly as they were captured 29 years ago, FOB DFC.
