View Notes- This seems to be derived from the same source as shnid 228 - sbd seeded by D. Finney (rumoured to be a copy of a rough mix cassette made for SYF) - The channels had been switched so I have corrected that. - Some transitions cleaned up with crossfades. - Pitch corrections made. - "Seastones", "OMSN" and "U.S. Blues" provided by shnid 228. If I had to choose just one source to keep I think it would have to be this, It sounds so vibrant.

The difference is the Telefunkens in the transfer chain. This reel was originally dubbed by Wilson in March of 1979. Long before the Betty Boards so at the time, this and the other shows were quite a score. I also have recently done traditional transfers with my new Technics RS1506(a big thanks to Adam Aegert!!) that I'm just as happy about so i'll mix it up if you all want more. Enjoy!!

May he alter his new home as much as his did his terrestrial one! a **GEMS** Production www.shnflac.net March 15 2011 ========== Processing for this seed: Dithered: Ozone 4 (MBIT+, High, 16, Normal) in Wavelab 6 to 16/44.1 --- The original source has dead areas between some tracks. I have left all between-song noodling in this source when the tracks flowed smoothly from one to the next. When there was a stretch of no-signal between tracks, and no interesting noodling, I omitted the between- track material (including the dead air), and faded the track before the dead air (leaving 5-10 seconds of crowd after that song ended). Other than this, I made no changes to the original source. The source turns out to be most of the first set from 10/19, and then the Good Lovin' from 10/20. I have left the filler from 10/20 as part of this seed because it was part of the original seed. View Notes"sbd" This topic generates large amounts of message traffic on Deadlists. Briefly, the "Wall of Sound" was a fundamentally different type of sound system where each musician adjusted the levels of their own instruments. Owsley Stanley (Bear) claims that there can be no soundboard recordings because there wasn't a soundboard. During these "retirement" concerts there were apparently many recordings made, some of which were released as "Steal Your Face". There is a rumor that this recording is a copy of a rough mix cassette made for SYF provided to the taping community by Jerry Wexler's son or nephew (or something like that), along with 10.18.74 and 10.20.74. These shows came from the Frank's Picks tree, round 4 http://frankspicks.org/fp4_Source_tape_info.htm

View NotesNote: Here's an AUD of this famous show, but be warned, the quality varies from decent to terrible, with the final 45 minutes sounding very much the worse for wear. Noted flaws: - The speed varied radically, and was off by 3.5% to 9.5%, adjustments were applied, but it remains far from perfect. - Extensive tape surface noise & hiss, this was EQ'ed a bit. - Gap in Scarlet Begonias at 4:51, approx 15 seconds missing. - About half of China Doll is missing, and there is horrible squealing-tape damage for much of the track, wasn't fixable. - Most of Big River is marred by tape damage & speed issues. - Two small gaps in He's Gone; at 4:15 and again at 6:41. - About one minute missing from the end of Sunshine Daydream. With thanks to John and Rich Petrunis for sharing their tapes!
