View NotesAfter too long a break, the Jed Luckless Band finally returns to the Jedstead stage for the first in a four run show at the Purple Rain venue in Secondlife! It's great to have the boys back and they don't miss a beat, delivering their usual high energy rock and roll show, including new and classic JLB originals, extended jams, fun covers and a special Grateful Dead-ication.

The show explodes out of the gate with an energetic "Sugar Pop" and a sweet jam that winds its way into "Road Trip," the Mark Gutenplan travelling song. The third tune features bass player Kenny Kaufman, with his tale of the flood "Saw Mill River." The band inserts the Luckless instrumental "Valley Of The Saints" into the middle and the result is a nice journey around the stage with K-Man's SMR Reprise bringing it home. The first cover of the night comes next with the Lou Reed song "Rock And Roll." It's a fun and peppy version that gives way to a rockin jam with nice key work from Mark Gutenplan, which eases its way into a nice version of the Garcia/Hunter penned "Loser" sung by Kenny Kaufman. Jed's folksy "Used To Feel Good" closes out the set.

Second set opens in typical JLB fashion with Jed's jam-vehicle "Victim Of The Rhythm" which spawns a killer jam that cascades into VOTR's common partner, the emotional "Smile Forever." Next up is a celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Grateful Dead's show at Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ with Mark Gutenplan relating his stories of that day and introducing "Englishtown," the song he wrote about the experience. It's paired with the traditional "I Know You Rider." A JLB debut follows, the Jed Luckless tune "Give It Back" with its driving beat and searing vocals. It generates the longest jam of the night, which features Pete Martine and a great drum solo along with a full band freak out that really explodes before turning into the futuristic "Ozone Blues" to wrap up the set. A Phish cover serves as the encore, the high energy "Character Zero."

This show is a fantastic return for the JLB full of great songs, great jams and exciting and unexpected moments throughout. How wonderful to know the run has three more shows! In the meantime give this one a listen and enjoy!
