Jammin Jed takes a break from his summer break for a Post-Independence Day Celebration chock full of originals, classic rock & roll tunes and groovy jams. It's a lengthy one, recorded on July 5th, 2017 at Darkstar, SL, and clocking in at over 150 minutes! The show starts off strong with Jed's version of Robert Plant's "In the Mood" with a strong backbeat and a drippy keyboard jam that segues into "Stepping Stone." The Monkees classic is abruptly stopped due to a broken string and not restarted. Instead Jed moves on to a pair of his originals, the rocker "Victim Of The Rhythm" and the bluesy "Moved To The Country," starting them off with a "Roundabout" tease, and joining them with a rockin jam. Next up is one of two "social commentary" tunes in the show (as Jed puts it) - this one is "So Much For OJ," Jed's parable of media madness. The celebration continues with a 'red white and blue' medley that includes the Who's "Behind Blue Eyes," and Prince's "Little Red Corvette." The already lengthy set ends with a monster version of Phish's "Slave To The Traffic Light." After a well needed break, Jed opens second set with the ode to classic rock by Mark Gutenplan, "FM Rock." Typically paired with a classic radio song, here it gives way to a powerful, Jimi-inspired version of the "Star Spangled Banner." The 'stellar' love song "Oh My Star" eases the show back on track, and the bouncy "Used To Feel Good," picks up the pace. The second portion of the nights 'social commentary' comes next, and it's Jed's song about the things that influence our children, called "My Kid." The fun continues with a pair of classic rock and rollers, the Allman Brothers "Ramblin Man" and Led Zeppelin's "Going To California." A nice jam is sandwiched between them. An appropriate "US Blues" closes the show, with a little more Greatful Dead in the double encore which features "Liberty" and the Trey Anastasio instrumental "First Tube." This is a fun, holiday show with a great mix of favorite rock tunes, great originals and hot jams. Enjoy!
