It's the opening show on Jammin Jed's 2017 Winter Rocks Tour, which featured a rocky, snowy stage setup that followed the entire tour along with a wintry light show by Moondance Parx. The first set opens with a rarity, Jed's "Luna Overture" from the Luna Suite along with it's much more common partner in crime "Ozone Blues." The quiet "Sunlight" rises next, erupting into a blazing burst of energy that is one of the jam highlights of the show. It segues into "The Story Of Shirtless Joe" a semi-factual tale that was getting alot of play around this time which is followed by a more recent Jed ballad called "Begging For Mercy." The spiritual "Listen To The Angels" arises next and it's a ten minute outing with a nice keyboard solo and lots of cowbell. The first cover tune of the night ends the set, Led Zeppelin's "Over The Hills and Far Away." The setbreak is a fun one, featuring an audio interview with Jed that he recorded for blog writer Owl Dragonash. It's about eight minutes long and it gives a ton of fun insight into Jed, his music and his life. Second set kicks off in traditional fashion with "Victim of the Rhythm," and while there's a bit of a jam attached, it's obvious Jed was running up against curfew at this show, and he shifts it into "Far Gone Blues." Time for one more original, "Back Again" off Jed's 2010 All At Once album, with one last short jam before a smooth segue into "Goin Down The Road Feelin Bad" to the end of the show. There's no time for an encore even, but included here on the archive is the soundcheck, which featured an at-the-time unnamed instrumental that went on to be referred to as "DPG." This show certainly has the high energy feel of a tour opener right out of the gate, and while there's a few kinks here and there to work out, the performance is a strong and cohesive with alot of great original music and a couple fun covers. If only there were more time to see what this show could have produced. Definitely worth a listen, especially the Sunlight jam and the fun interview. Enjoy!
