View NotesIt's Phish Bowl VIII! The annual celebration of Phish and Football brought to you by Jed Luckless and the folks at Jedtainment! Each year the Phish Bowl production seems to top itself and number eight is no exception! The production quality of the introductions and halftime show are superior and of course the live music from Jammin Jed is as good as ever. The festivities kick off as they always do, with the singing of the National Anthem with fireworks and a flyover in memory of Frank Battitude (who appears to be present throughout the show!). The show opener is the energetic "Crowd Control," which decides the first winner in the annual Set List Box Pool. The first half features a lengthy "Moma Dance" joined with the classic "Contact," a pair of cuts off the recent "Big Boat" album, and the traditional Bob Marley cover song. The bouncy "Old Home Place" and the Page McConnel tune "Halfway To The Moon" round out the first set. THe halftime show is as fun as ever, featuring a performance by the funk-jazz-rock act "High North" out of Brooklyn, NY and of course the Phish Bowl trophy presentation for 'best' Phish show of 2016, which was awarded to 9/4/16, Dicks Sporting Goods Park, Commerce City, CO (a repeat Phish Bowl champion venue!). The second half kicks off with the instrumental "Buried Alive" followed by a monster "Axilla" (with "Godzilla" tease). The Talking Heads tune "Psycho Killer" pops up next followed by the Rift classic "Mound." A fun "Makisupa Policeman" shows up mid set followed by an uncharacteristically jammy "Mango Song" which works it's way into "Dirt." The show closes with a hefty "Wedge," with a extra point encore of "Miss You" and "After Midnight" tacked on. Included here is also the sound check which was "Steam" (played by Jed at PB7). It's another super fun special event from Jedtainment and as always an amazing tribute to Phish and the adventure of music and sport! Enjoy!
