View NotesOldNeumanntapr Notes; For the final night of the NYE run, after missing out on the lottery for New Years tickets, we decided to set up camp in my friend Ron's living room in Oakland and record the show from the KFOG FM Broadcast. I called my friend Gene, a taper who lived in Pennsylvania at the time and would later purchase a Sony TCD-D10 DAT recorder, because he was giving a NYE party and did not live in range of a station that carried the nationwide broadcast. I tipped him off to the 'Let The Good Times Roll' opener because he had a bet going as to what song the Dead would open with on New Years, so I called him long distance as soon as the first set started. This was the second show that I recorded with my new D6 that I had gotten for Christmas in 1988. Thanks mom!!! I thought that the drum solo for the '88 NYE show was really cool, with the addition of Olatunji, Sikiru Adepoju , and Kitaro. Though I had tried for the lottery mail order for NYE tickets starting in 1986, it wouldn't be until New Years '89 that I would actually get tickets. 1988 was the last Grateful Dead NYE show that I would record of the radio, because I had the privilege of being at the show for the 1989, 1990, and 1991 NYE shows. Unfortunately, I was not able to record the 1991 New Years show because once I got inside the Coliseum I found that people had 'reserved' the entire tapers section with coats placed over the seats, so we ended up sitting up in the nosebleed seats and leaving my recording gear in the bag. That was kind of a bummer show because Bill Graham had recently died and they just showed films of past NYE shows.
