Taper Notes:
View NotesOldNeumanntapr Notes; I always liked the Kaiser Convention Center, mostly because it was smaller than the Oakland Coliseum Arena. I saw my very first Dead show at Henry J. Kaiser on Feb 9 1986, and we sat in the tapers section by accident because I wanted to be in the balcony and not on the floor dealing with standing room only. (I spent half of my time at my first show staring at the tapers and the other half watching the band. Afterward I understood the phrase, 'When you absolutely have to be there, every night!') I knew from my first show that I wanted to be a taper. I remember thinking that it was odd that Jerry left the stage for the jam after 'Gimme Some Lovin'. I think it was one of these two shows that, as we were running in through the doors, another taper exclaimed to his friend that 'We fulfill a Valuable archival purpose!' I never forgot that because it rang true with me. It's so amazing to go through my early masters all these years later because if a picture is worth a thousand words, an audio recording is a complete volume!
