View NotesJed Luckless returns to the stage at Vibe Live Music for a show that was supposed to feature the Jed Luckless Band, but had to be cancelled at the last moment due to Covid health and safety protocols at the Jedstead studio. But the show must go on, so Jed took the stage solo, and delivered a jammy show for the ages. He opens the first set in a serious mode, with "Cold Dark Winter," probably on his mind due to the last minute change in plans. It's actually a very different byut cool way to open the show. Jed quickly picks things up next with "Used To Feel Good," which even though it is upbeat still seems to be highlighting theme for the night. That sentiment carries over into "Friendly Burial," which features a rocking middle section. Jed takes things into the jam zone next with "The Need For Love" and the first major jam of the night, a scorcher that segues into the Phish song "Light." It's a challenging tune, but Jed give it his best shot before taking it deep into an improv. After a wah-filled funk jam, the gentle "Barter Creek" emerges to close the first frame. The two jams were each over seventeen minutes, but that was nothing compared to what was to come. Second set is a three song set. That pretty much tells you what to expect. Jed opens it with the semi-instrumental "Doigter," and never looks back. It's not a song known to spawn long jams, but Jed opens it up into an extended improv that features multiple movements, various key and rhythm changes, killer drum beats, soaring guitar riffs, wild synth sounds and several key solos. Forty-nine minutes later, he makes a smooth transition into the heartfelt "Secret Language" a fan favorite not played June 30, 2020. The upbeat pop-rocker "Nothing's Ever Free" is the perfect set closer for this set. And the very personal encore features "Ungratefully Dead," written by Jed's dad. This is a one of kind Jed show featuring one of, if not the, longest improv jam ever (even longer than the 46 minute "46 Days" from 5/21/19). It would be worth a listen just for that, but it also has alot more to offer including two other strong jams, a rare "Secret Language" and a powerful opener. Must-listen! Enjoy!
