He's joined by Moondance on the light rig, and together they ignite the pav-style venue with sound and color. Set I opens with the D&D inspired "Alignments" with its rocking, ascending solo section. The GuRGLe era "The Freeze" is up next, providing a nice flow into the Mark Gutenplan song "Englishtown" about the famous Grateful Dead show in New Jersey. The song spawns the first big jam of the night, a rhythmic improv with soaring guitar lines and a nice synth solo. It settles down into a nice ambient portion with a melody reminiscent of "Mailboat Jam" that transitions smoothly into the Beatles "Dear Prudence." The spiritual epic "Twelve" closes out the set with an intense end section in which Jed is so into the guitar solo that he neglects the vocal "12" count for which the song is named. The second set's first song is "Give It Back" a common second set opener known for its extended jams, and this one delivers the longest one of the night, featuring a driving beat and cool synthy melodies echoed by the guitar. If moves nicely into a major mode with floating guitar lines before shifting gears abruptly into the contemplative, finger picked "Sunlight." The bouncy relationship commentary "Go Away" is up next, with a sweet end solo section featuring harmonic guitar riffs that segues into one last improv jam of the night. This one has some great melodic guitar work from Jed over a puncuated drum rhythm. It breaks down suddenly into "Old Town Hall," which gets off to a strange start on the wrong rhythm before righting itself. It does feature some cool slide guitar work from Jed. The calypso-esque "By And Bye" wraps up the set, and a "cool down" encore features the GuRGLe era pastoral tune "Open Road." This is clearly a show Jed is having a good time at, as shown by the thoughful and creative jams he lets loose. It's a solid setlist with a few great versions of classic Jed tunes and many strong solos on both guitar and keys. Definitely worthy of a listen. Enjoy!
