View NotesJed Luckless continues his 2021 tour of European venues with a stop in France at Taniz, a open field venue perfect for Moondance to join the tour for with her amazing light show.
You can tell Jed is psyched to have the light show, because he opens the show with the rocker "Latest Craze" and immediately opens it up into a monster jam, featuring some cripsy guitar tones and an unexpected "Another One Bites The Dust" tease. The jam transitions nicely into "Far Gone Blues" for a breather, before going deep behind enemy lines into "Friendly Burial," with a rocking middle section. Jed mellows it out next with the instrumental "Outside Looking In" before getting back to the rockers with "Homewrecker." A completely insane thirteen and a half minute "Catfish Friend" closes out the set.
Second set opens with "Multiply" which of course extends into a nice long jam, featuring a great upbeat rhythm, soaring guitar lines and a cool clavinet style solo on the keyboard. It melts nicely into the guitar driven instrumental "Meredith," with it's spanish style open string soloing and bouncy melody. The finger picked "Time And Tide" is up next which explodes with a powerful mid-section." A newer song follows, called "Always Alone," written during lock-down and featuring a blistering guitar solo. Jed digs into his newly opened vault nexxt for the live debut of a song called "Someday Be Me," written while part of a short lived band called "Slip and Fall." It's an interesting song, but perhaps would sound better with the band backing him up. "The Kid That Tried To Fly" is a common second set closer with its soaring end section and guitar solo always providing a high energy ending to any show. The encore features a fun, acerbic song written by Jed's dad called "Ungratefully Dead."
This is a good show at a cool venue with a great light show, and you can feel Jed and Moonie locking in on the jams. While the setlist might lack that certain flow, there are some standout combos, a few nice instrumentals, a live debut and one of the best versions of "Catfish Friend" in a while. Enjoy!
