View NotesThe Jed Luckless Band is back after a six month break! The band's last show prior to this was on November 8, 2020 but then it got too cold on the Jedstead patio so the band took a forced winter hiatus. But spring is here and the COVID restrictions have eased at the Jedstead, so we're lucky to have JLB back in the studio and rocking live for us in Secondlife! It's a Cinco De Mayo show also, so the band really brings some high energy to SL's Gonjaland venue for two sets of their original rock music and jams with an amazing light show by Moondance Parx! The show opens with a nice mellow version of "Still In Luv With U," and right off the bat the band sounds great! The vibe continues with the somber "Listen To The Angels," followed by a dedication to the recently lost Tony Markellis, bass player from the Trey Anastasio band, with his song "Sand." Jed unfortunately breaks a string during the song, but still manages to crank out a how jam featuring a nice "SWAT Theme" tease. While Jed changes the string, Kenny Kaufman crafts an improv fairy tale for us, with musical backdrop provided by Mark Gutenplan and Pete Martine that leads perfectly into a Cinco De Mayo version of "La Bamba" as Jed returns to the stage. Mark's Grateful Dead homage "Englishtown" is up next, and it has a nice little jam before transitioning seamlessy into a very nice version of "Bird Song," which is a debut cover for the band. jed's summertime romp "Geneva Sue" wraps up the first frame. Second set opens as you might expect, with a twenty-one minute "Victim Of The Rhythm" which features a cool opening and a rocking extended jam that winds it's way into Jed's blueser "Side Door." Kenny leads the band through the Talking Heads "Cities" next, which also give ways to a great jam before transitioning into "Brother Love" in honor of the venue and NYS recently legalizing marijuana. Mark takes the helm one more time for "Remember This Night," which features the third hot jam of the set. Both this jam and the "Cities" jam have some cool trancey elements to them, as Jed shifts to provide dual keyboards with Mark doing double duty on keys and guitar as well. The jam makes a bumpy landing in a very brief and fast "Used To Feel Good." Kenny takes another turn at the mic for his song "Saw Mill River," which has a great middle jam to it. The calypso dancer "By And Bye" ends the set in it's typical position. A two-song encore features another debut cover for the band with Led Zeppelin's "Hey Hey What Can I Do," along with the JLB classic "Ozone Blues" to close out the night. This is a super high energy show and the first show back in the Jedstead studio in over a year, so everyone is very excited to be back and you can feel that vibe from the band and audience. The show features a great setlist full of rocking jams and two cover debuts. It's officially the start of JLB 4.20 and it's a must listen! Enjoy!!
