View NotesIt's Phish Bowl XII! Once again Jed and the gang gather for their annual celebration of Phish and Football on the eve before the Super Bowl! As always the show features an NFL theme, two sets of Phish songs performed by Jed Luckless, a halftime show and the presentation of the Phish Bowl trophy for best Phish show of the previous year. This is the twelfth Phish Bowl and it took place as part of Jed's Winter Tour 2021 at Skytower Stadium in Secondlife, with an amazing light show provided by Moondance Parx. The spectacle begins with the usual fanfare featuring a big introduction followed by the singing of the National Anthem complete with fireworks and jet flyover. Jed kicks off the music with "Set Your Soul Free" which provides great energy and a perfect message at the outset. The bouncy island tune "Yamar" is up next, followed by Jed's debut of the Mike Gordon song "How Many People Are You." The first big jam of the night appears net as Jed emulates last year's Phish Bowl winner with an extended version of "Ruby Waves," another debut for Jed. It's not quite as long as the Phish version from Alpine valley but it does have two distinct sections, the first a rockin guitar driven jam and the second a more ethereal synth driven vibe. It transitions into "Free" and then a really nice "Prince Caspian" that clocks in over ten minutes. The set closer is a super high energy "Run Like An Antelope" which has a really nice build up. The halftime show features a fun introduction as always, and a live (recorded) performance from Secondlife vocalist Krisie Snowdrop performing a "Sounds of the 70's" medley. The presentation of the Phish Bowl trophy goes to 2/21/20 at Riviera Maya in Mexico, one of only four contenders for the championship in this unusual year. Second set opens with "Punch You In The Eye," but instead of the Landlady middle section, Jed segues into a fun and wild version of Icculus with nearly 8 minutes of Helping Phriendly Book narration. After finally naming the writer of the book, Jed reprises the final verse of PYITE. An ambitious rhythmic take on "You Enjoy Myself" provides a mid-set peak complete with funky trampoline solos and a super bowl inspired vocal jam. It transitions ambiently into the beautiful "Wading In The Velvet Sea," followed by a brief attempt at "Taste" before moving to the big set closer "Harry Hood." It's a fifteen minute extended version that builds nicely to climax the show and bring it to and end. A Jed debut encore of "Life Beyond The Dream" features special guest Reverie Dax on vocals, who listeners may remember from her "Blaze On" appearance at Phish Bowl VII. This is another phantastic tribute to the band Phish with all the football fanfare typical of Jed's Phish Bowl event. While it was missing the recent addition of the "Clueless Wallob" band, this year does feature some nice extended jamming from Jed and a setlist that is a bit more ambitious and risky. A must hear for all the phans out there! Enjoy!
