View NotesNotes on this recording: Although this may be derived from the same analog source recording as shnid01580, this is a different digital transfer from analog. This recording varies from 01580 in several respects. There is no soundcheck or soundboard of the encore. Casey Jones is cut shorter here than on 01580 A tape and volume jump at approx. 03:46 of Looks Like Rain on 01580 is not present on this recording. There are surely other differences I have yet to detect. Also on this recording there are two tracks from a (rough) audience source. d02t03 (X)Casey Jones is an audience source, with very little missing from the beginning, and has the end of the song plus applause and set break announcement. The Encore is entirely from audience source, and is complete all the way through the outro PA tape, Rainy Day Women #12 & 35. A friend, (Thanks Sue M.), had lent me the CDR's of the soundboard that she had received from a supposedly well connected friend in the Madison area. I added the 2 audience segments from my tapes to "complete" them. No attempt was made to patch the soundboard, audience tracks are just "tacked on". Unfortunately, I no longer have access to the audience tapes, I may be able to retrieve them, but that will not occur in the near future, as the tapes are "up north", approx. 350 miles away.

Taper Notes:
View NotesTrack 1 on CD1 are Jack Straw and Box of Rain from the Sound Check. The following layout is based on 2x74min plus 1x80min. I originally received these with the encore on cd2. I like the sequential flow of a show and so bumped cd3 to 80min to put the encores at the end while keeping the DS>Eyes> China Doll intact. To make this 3x74, simply move d3t07 and t08 to d2t10 and 11.

Taper Notes:
View NotesNotes: I received these from a friend, (thanks Sue), who had received these from the taper back in the day. To my ears, it sounds like the first set and first two tracks of the second set have an extra generation on them. As first sets in this time frame often contained over a half an hour of tuning and dead air, an edited or dubbing "master" was used, whereas the Dark Star through the end of the show comprises two continuous tape segments, no edits, and hence no edited "master" was needed. There are analog edits on the tapes I worked with after every track on the first set, after the first two tracks of the second set and after track 05 of the second set. A tape flip occurs at the 05:34 mark of Set One track 05 as well. Cuts to the music are indicated by the double slash marks, //.
