The Jed Luckless Planet Sound Tour continues to deliver amazing shows for fans with this one being the second night of an awesome two night run at the new venue McCullough Arena. We actually learned that Jed and Moonie are the first act to perform in the arena and boy what an inuaguration! Things start off nice and slowly, with Jed easing into the set with the instrumental "Outside Looking In," but things ramp up quickly as he moves right into "Give It Up," a hardended rocker that opens up into an early improv jam and winds it's way into the cautionary reggae "Hurtful Things." Things get a bit weird next, as Jed takes us 'back in time,' launching into the rarity "Spikes In The Rock" (only the second time he's played this live solo). In the middle of the tune, he pivots to the "Peter Gunn Theme," then back into Spikes. Jed later explained Spikes was the first song he ever wrote and recorded with a band in high school called "Jack In The Mist." And the Peter Gunn Theme was another song they recorded on their 3 or 4 song cassette tape. All that aside, Spikes opens up into a super cool extended jam featuing multi-layered rhythmic guitar lines. The whole affair clocks in over 22 minutes before a segue into "Sunlight" off Jed's 2010 'All At Once' album. The bluegrassy "Slipping Through My Hands" closes out the set on an upnote. Second set kicks off (after Jed's Spikes story) with "Look Away," a cool GuRGLe-era song which spawns another fantastic jam that goes deep into some tasty ambience jamming and extends to nearly thrity minutes. This one winds down and gives way perfectly to Pink Floyd's "Fearless." Jed's 90's pop-rocker "Secret Dance" makes a rare appearance next (only played live once before), and also leads into a really good jam, this one featuring fun teases of "Tweezer Reprise" and Peter Gunn. The segue into the fun storyteller "Ten Ounces" is seamless, and Jed caps off the almost 90 minute set with a perfect closer, Phish's "Blaze On" complete with a "Low Rider" tease (a callback to the previous night). The encore features a couple covers, Johnny Nash's "I Can See Clearly Now" and J.J. Cale's "After Midnight" the latter with a cute Brady Bunch tease. Also included with this recording is the cool little sound check jam. This is a superb show, with some absolutely incredible jams. Add to that alot of nostalgia, some rarities and bust outs and an overall high energy good time vibe, and you've got a MUST must listen. Keep an ear out for all the fun teases throughout and enjoy!
