View NotesJed's Planet Sound Tour makes a brief stop at the annual Hippiestock Festival in Second Life! It's been a tradition for Jed to close out the fest, but he missed it last year, so it's great to have him back! Even if it's just for one set. Once again, Jed opens the show with a Bob Weir tribute, "Let It Grow," and it's a sign of what's to come. Following that is a bouncy little instrumental called "A Day In The Park," which is an instrumental from the 'Outside Looking In' soundtrack and a live debut of the tune. "Catfish Friend" surfaces next, and it features an awesome jam section. And then comes the centerpiece of this show...a forty-five minute combo of "Eyes Of The World," Drums & Space, and "Not Fade Away. It's an awesome Grateful Dead segment, and it's been a long time since Jed delivered a true Drums & Space (75 shows to be exact). The 'Eyes' is good, but you can tell it's been a while since Jed played it, and he kind of skips the solo sections. But it's okay because the Drums and SPace make up for it. The Drums segment starts out like drum duet, then shifts into steel drums, snare drum rolls and weird sound effects. The Space segment features a nice bassy synth, perhaps trying to emulate the beam, then moves into a synth guitar and total psychedelic chaos. The moment when the Eyes rhythm re-emerges is the chef's kiss. Then after one last Eyes stanza, Jed goes right into "Not Fade Away." It's a great version, with a killer guitar solo, and the traditional clap ending is an emotional and moving way to end this show. The encore features Jed's original "Black Molly," followed by one last Grateful Dead nod that has the crowd weeping with "Brokedown Palace." This is a short but powerful show, and an awesome tribute to Bob Weir and the Grateful Dead at an event that celebrates hippie culture. A must hear for the Heads out there. Enjoy!
