The Jed Luckless Planet Sound Tour continues it's awesomeness with the first of a two-night stand at McCullough Arena in Second Life. It's the crew's first time at the venue, which can sometimes be a hit or miss situation, but this one is a BIG hit. It's a gorgeous glass enclosed arena with beautiful views of the city, and Moonie's light rig has plenty of room to shine. Jed even remarks about the amazing backstage area, where they have their own dressing rooms! The show kicks off strongly with the pop-rocker "Nothings Ever Free," before dialing it back a touch with the relatively recent instrumental "Renewal" (only the third time played live). It's a deceptively rocking tune that starts out mellow but has a killer second half jam section. The pastoral "Open Road" is next, with "Heart Of The City" batting clean-up. The 'Jammin Jed's AI Halloween' rocker opens up into the first big jam of the night, which features some nice key work and a brief 'Sugar Pop' tease that makes the crowd go wild. The jam segues into Jed's debut of a song called "The Man Upstairs" written by one of the Jed Heads in the crowd (Marshall). It's a powerful song with a great backbeat and emotional lyrics. Jed closes out the first set with Phish's "My Sweet One," complete with the story of Saint Bernard the rescue cat. The second half opens with the always fun "Look Out Here Comes A Comet!" with it's dinosaur A-to-Z and its brooding 'Asteroid Jam' tail. The end of it turns into the beginning of War's "Low Rider," the first time Jed has ever played the song, and its a fun, fast version that keeps right on riding into more extended jamming. When the smoke from the burning rubber clears, the poignant "Bring Our Brothers Home," is there with its anti-war message. The pace picks back up again with pop-rocker "Angel," which also spawns a sweet improv jam that slides into the beautiful "Lost In You," another song from the AI Halloween roster. Jed's unapologetic "My Tune" closes out the set, and a fun encore features the Monkees' "Daydream Believer." Also included here is the soundcheck, which features a rehearsal take of "The Man Upstairs" and a nice soundcheck jam. This is a fantastic show energized by a cool new venue. The crowd was throwin great energy, and the light show was completely bananas. It's a fun and diverse setlist with a couple of debuts and a few really hot jams. The builders of the arena said it was built specifically with Jed shows mind - well mission accomplished! Give this one a spin and enjoy!
