This one is Jammin Jed's 2016 Fall Tour Opener, from 9/21/19 at DarkStar in Secondlife. It's a solstice show with a ton of magical energy, numerous extended jams and "some great versions of songs that aren't always that good!" You can tell Jed is excited to get the tour "on the road" since he opens it up with a twenty-one minute version of his rocker "Give It Back." The energetic song is usually a second set opener, which makes sense since this first set FEELS like a second set.(it also feels like a party, since it was a a fan's birthday and Jed teases happy birthday throughout the show). The jam out of "Give It Back" makes a nice ambient transition into the title track off Jed's 2016 album "Roll Over." It's one of the better live versions you'll hear of the tune, with a blazing blues guitar solo from Jed. "Listen To The Angels" is up next with its typical jammy middle section, followed by the semi-instrumental "Doitger," which is a great version of the spoken French tune featuring some energetic playing from Jed. The "Luna" opener "Ozone Blues" is up next, and it's another great version of a tune we've heard many many times, complete with weather forecast intro. In keeping with the g.o.a.t mentality of this show, Jed serves up a tasty "Catfish Friend" next with a intense jam that clocks in at over eleven minutes, followed immediately by a rocking sixteen minute "Old Man Miller" to close out the set and dedicated to Papa Jed. Jed makes a brief plea for everyone to push on through the negativity of the week (it's a fall solstice show, the season of death), and then he opens second set with his classic jam vehicle "Victim of The Rhythm" which of course opens up into a length jam, featuring some great vintage synth sounds on a keyboard that Jed was using around this time. The jam winds down into Victim's long time companion "Smile Forever," another really pretty version of a tune that can be hit or miss. Jed digs deep into his GuRGLe back of tricks for another blueser, "Black Molly," before delivering yet another exploratory jam out of the quiet "Sunlight." The jam features some nice gutiar work and a Theme From SWAT tease from Jed before it takes a turn toward Eugene, OR and the story of "Ten Ounces," always a fun one. But its right back to the jams with the first of only two covers in the show, this one Phish's "Tube," with a rocking jam portion complete with blues breakdown. Jed wraps up the set with the debut of a great new bluegrassy song called "Forgot To Forget." The encore is a nice mellow version of the Grateful Dead's "Truckin'" which builds to a nice climax before crashing into a rare "VOTR Reprise" at the end of the show (this may be the only time Jed has done this?). This show was at the peak of 2016, a busy year for Jed with 60 shows performed, and some of his hottest and longest concerts. This is a good example clocking in at two hours and forty eight minutes with multiple jams at or near twenty minutes, and some of the best versions of his classic originals. A must listen for sure (if you have the time!). Enjoy!
