View NotesThe JLB is back with a scorcher of a show at Darkstar in Secondlife! Recorded on 7/28/16 at The Jedstead and broadcast into virtuality, the concert has a bit of everything for the JLB fan, including some classics, some new "stuff" and some deep jams. A "heat dome" over the east coast made the studio hotter than the frontier, so the JLB gang eases into things, kicking of the first set with a laid-back version of the band's pop classic "Still In Luv With U." The beautiful Mark Gutenplan song "Remember This Night" comes next, continuing to get fantastic jam treatments from the band and stretching to near twelve minutes by way of an awesome melodic loop jam. The band slides effortlessly into "Listen To The Angels," a newer Jed Luckless tune and one sure to make future setlists. The Ken Kaufman and Jeff Lockwood penned "Saw Mill River" pumps up the energy and features a fun Brady Bunch discussion and subsequent tease from Jed. A decent "Sugar Pop" and apropos "Ozone Blues" round out the set, with the only Phish song of the night "Wolfman's Brother" closing it with a powerful jam of its own. Second set heats up right off the bat with a fiery "Victim Of The Rhythm" that stretches into a sweet jam before slipping into the Luckless instrumental "Valley Of The Saints." VotS also spreads its wings, and leads into a spacey drum solo by Pete Martine on the v-kit, with accompaniment from the others on percussion, keys and beer bottles. The chaos gives way to a peaceful "Celebrate Instead" with multi-instrumentalist Mark G. bringing a nice vibe to it on keys and guitar. But there's still a lot of burn left in the set, and "FM Rock" fans the flames with a jam reminiscent of "Are You Experienced" and featuring a clear "China Cat" tease. The set wraps up with the JLB's cover debut of a super-fun tune by Cailidgh Spires called "The Song With Words And Stuff." A final encore tips a hat to the Darkstar crowd with the only Grateful Dead song of the night, "Deal." This is a really fun show with alot of great commentary from the band including tidbits of wisdom from Colorful K-Man throughout. Numerous improv jams and a great setlist make this an enjoyable listen from start to finish. Grab a cool one, kick back and enjoy!
