Here's a Jed Luckless show from March 9, 2016 at Darkstar in Secondlife, part of his 2016 Winter tour and one of a pair of back to back shows on the 8th and 9th (the 8th was at The Blarney Stone and is available on the archive here: https://archive.org/details/jed2016-03-08) 2016 was a peak year for Jed, and this show illustrates why. He opens with the psycho-philosophical "Water Glass" launching the show quickly into space by jumping on the drum kit for the jam portion of the tune. It's definitely a song that sets the tone for what will be a rockin, jammy night. Jed tries to mellow out a bit on the second song with the semi-instrumental "Doigter" but he can't help but rock the electric guitar section. The trend continues with a scorching version of "Ozone Blues," this time out coupled with it's rare partner "The Caravan." The usually short and somber "Sunlight" surprises next with a lengthy jam that leads to a somewhat thematic and definitely rockin "Lightship." Jed shares his Phish summer tour plans during the intro to a kick-ass "Ass Gas Or Grass," and then pairs it nicely with the oft-covered cover tune "Loving Cup" to close out a hot and hefty first set. Second set starts out with the heavy hitter "Victim Of The Rhythm" and this one is a home run or at least a triple, clocking in at 17 minutes and featuring a "Star Trek" intro and a bouncy bongo jam. "Latest Craze" on the other hand gets the short treatment, giving way to the Mark Gutenplan song "Road Trip" (played often with the Jed Luckless Band) with a nice "Other One" tease. The true story of corporate greed and growing weed is up next with Jed's original "Ten Ounces." Some more Phish bubbles up mid-set, as the prog-rocker "Steam" generates another highlight jam of the evening, with some theramin cueing an uplifting vibe. The jam transitions sweetly into "Bittersweet Motel" with a nice ambience loop. An upbeat "After Midnight" closes out the set. But it's not over yet. There's never a curfew at Darkstar! And Jed makes the most of it, delivering a three song encore that starts out with a fun spiritual "Let The Sun Shine In," most well known in Jed's circles from "The Flintstones." The poignant Phil Lesh penned "Box of Rain" is a nice treat, but as Jed says he can't end the show on it so he busts out Phish's "First Tube" to end on a high note. This is another great show from Jed's 2016 Winter Tour featuring a mix of his originals and a heavy does of Phish, along with several nice improv jams and some fun Jed storytelling. Enjoy!
