Used Diamond Cut/Forensics 8.1 to clean up the monitor noise (sounds like an unshielded cable) and a little of the over saturation (analog recorder clipping) on the source
Taper Notes:
View NotesFebruary, 2012: Obtained shnid: 114616. Used Diamond Cut/Forensics 8.1 to clean up the monitor noise (sounds like an unshielded cable) and a little of the oversaturation (analog recorder clipping) on the source. Three Stages: 1. Concatenated the files into 3 large files (1 for each set). 2. Upsampled to 88.2 kHz (retained 16-bit) using "master" settings with no dithering. 3. Generated harmonics and overtones using a multifilter with: a. the dynamic noise "enhancer" setting (noise threshold 500, filter frequency 3500, attack time 25, release 100, HF gain of 8dB. b. Virtual valve "harmonic enhancer sweet spot" settings c. Overtone generator at 2.9 level, frequency of 7966, output level at 0 4. Used an multifilter for impulse reduction: a. de-clipper set at threshold of 43, slope of .300, 6dB gain reduction b. narrow crackle filter set at 35 threshold, size of 5 c. expert impulse set at threshold of 2000, size of 3, tracking at 32, "universal" mode, solo/brass checked. Thanks to Craig of Diamond Cut for the impulse suggestions; Marc H. for the upsampling idea, and Germain for access to the source files. Dan McDonald ([email protected])

SBD MR>R>FLAC; Monitor Noise throughout show; tranfer Matt Smith 7/2011
Taper Notes:
View NotesMatt's notes: first "Candyman" The show was promoted by a guy named Jim Tarbell(who also ran the Ludlow Garage). After the gig, he paid the band in fine Persian rugs since it didn't make much money Thanks Matt! Band complains about monitors throughout the show Big thanks to John/jpc3 for marking & tagging the tracks Seeded 07/17/2011 gballen More from Matt According to the story I heard from Dave Boswell, Jim Tarbel inherited a bunch of fine Persian rugs and would pay lots of the bands that would come through the Ludlow Garage that way and the bands knew this coming in. Apperantly, word was out that the Ludlow Garage was a hip place to play so the bands didn't care. Imagine that happening today in the age of ticketmaster! As far as this 4-3-70, Will's dub off the MR is the lowest lineage you'll find from this, and despite the monitor buzz is a wonderful show. The acoustic numbers really shine like the 'FOTD' with diff. lyrics and also sports the finest version of 'Katie Mae'IMHO. The 'deep elem' and the first ever 'candyman' aren't bad either. Also of note.. According to local legend during the Lemon Pipers set, all the Pranksters and the GD came out and did a 30 min. version of 'My Green Tamborine' complete with a very drunk Pigpen on tamborine, Mickey on the cowbell(of course!!) and Ken Kesey on lead vocals/manic raps..LOL ha ha, just kiddin'... Actually, this was a Pat Lee(the naked pole guy from Veneta) hallucination...

SBD > ? > bootleg CD > pitch correction and retracking > SHN
Taper Notes:
View NotesMissing encore (We Bid You Goodnight). Casey Jones fades in at "...at trouble junction." Good Lovin' fades in about 30 seconds before the drum solo, during the chorus. There is a minor splice in Lovelight during Pigpen's rap. This is the first known Candyman. As this show is from a bootleg, no source info was given, though the sound indicates that at least one, and probably two analog generations occurred before being transferred to digital. The pitch was corrected using Sound Forge as the original recording was flat. Retracking was done with CDWave. There are occasional, very faint pops in the recording as well as occasional oversaturation. Lastly, and significantly, an intermittent buzz occurs throughout the show from a bad connection somewhere. It is most evident during the acoustic set.
