After nearly a six-month forced hiatus due to quaratining the Jed Luckless Band returns for a socially distanced show outside on the Jedstead Patio! It's a lovely backdrop for some tunes, and you can tell the boys in the band are super excited to be back and having an absolute blast. The show was performed at The Dome in Secondlife, home of Moondance Parx's incredible particle light show, and a great crowd of Jed Heads new and old were in attendance. First set opens strongly with the JLB classic "Victim Of The Rhythm" giving the band an opportunity right off the bat to open up the jamming. The vocals sound great and it's a solid version of the tune that gives way a to a rocking jam featuring searing guitar riffs and a nice ambient breakdown before a shift into the temperature appropriate "The Freeze." The band is still dialing in their patio sound, but the solo section is hot even if a bit frenetic. They take a brief pause to adjust some levels before picking things up again with the Mark Gutenplan penned "Englishtown." It features a melodic jam with some great interplay between the band members before a segue into Jed's pop-rocker "Still In Luv With U." The band takes a brief trip up to the coast of Maine with "Geneva Sue" followed by a quick phone call by Jed's mom before launching into a three song combo to close to set which includes a sultry version of "FM Rock," a Rosh Hashannah bust-out of "Avenu Malkenu," and an extended version of the Velvet Underground tune "Rock And Roll." Darkness falls on second set, so Jed lights up the bonfire which adds a nice camping atmosphere to the stage and provides a natural smoke machine. The band opens the set with one of their favorite jam-vehicles, "Give It Back," which sure enough spawns the longest improv jam of the night clocking in at over 16 minutes before launching into "Ozone Blues." The Westchester inspired Kenny Kaufman rocker "Saw Mill River" is up next, and it's a great version with a killer middle section as well as an extended end jam that winds it's way nicely into "Road Trip." The Gutenplan travellogue takes a nice jam jounrey of it's own that slides seamlessy into a strong version of "Sugar Pop" with an extra sweet bridge section. The bouncy "Used To Feel Good" closes out the set, followed by a double encore featuring "Far Gone Blues," and a dedication to Ruth Bader Ginsburg with the Grateful Dead's "U.S. Blues." It's great to have JLB back, and this is a super high-energy show featuring many of your favorite JLB tunes and several nice jams performed outdoors in a fun, Covid-safe environment complete with campfire! Enjoy!
