View NotesThe Jed Luckless Band is back again for another socially distanced rock concert on the Jedstead Patio! This time they're hosted in Secondlife by Blissful Island, a gorgeous tropical venue with a great stage setup perfect for Moondance Parx's light show. A great crowd of Jed Heads and newbies were in attendance.
The show opens gently with "Listen To The Angels" but the band immediately brings the jam, with a nice warm up improv that segues into Mark Gutenplan's "The Rally," a moving 9/11 remembrance aptly rolled for September. From motorcycles to motorcars, the band delivers a tight Maserati with a restrained pace, hugging the curves. The first real jam of the night comes next in the band's cover of the Phish song "Sand," and it is a lengthy multi-segmented jam that reaches a really nice blissful peak. It slides effortlessly into Jed's "Moved To The Country" complete with a "Turn It On Again" tease in the intro. The bouncy blueser "Old Town Hall" is up next, followed by a rare political rant from Jed, followed by the fun, upbeat set closer "Forgot To Forget You," featuring a nice bass solo from Kenny Kaufman.
Second set opens with the historical epic "2000 Pikes," which spawns a lengthy jam that builds patiently to a rocking guitar and bass driven riff jam in 6/8. When the smoke clears, "Smile Forever" emerges, and it's a nicely emotional version of the song. The band takes a trip to the Middle East next with the Arabian inspired instrumental "Valley Of The Saints," featuring some nice drum work from Pete Martine. Speaking of drums, the Grateful Dead's "Eyes Of The World" makes an appearance next, and features a very cool full band drum and percussion segment along with a nice spacey portion and other great jamming. It's the longest segment of the night at over 22 minutes and when's it over, Jed takes us to the "Side Door," the newest JLB tune and a deep, soulful look at darkness and addiction. The band lightens it up again, closing the set with Cailidgh Spires "The Song With Words And Stuff," and tacking on Phish's "Suzy Greenberg" for a fun encore complete with a "Sweet Home Alabama" tease from Jed.
This is another great outing on the newly opened Jedstead Patio, where the band seems inspired and comfortable playing to the trees and the online audience. The show features a great setlist with some excellent and lengthy jams, some newer JLB tunes and a few great Phish and Dead covers. Enjoy!
