View NotesHere's a special show from Jammin Jed's EuroTour 2020 which was a brief stop back in the USA for Memorial Day with an appearance at the grand re-opening of the Blissful Island venue in Secondlife. The show was originally booked as a double bill featuring Jed and Lexie Luan, but Lexie had to cancel at the last minute, so Jed performed two full sets on his own.
In light of this, Jed kicks things off with a cover of Lexie's song "It Isn't Fair," which seems super appropriate given the protests that were going on in cities across the country. The show features a few Memorial Day themed songs including the next tune which is Jed's epic battlefied drama "Friendly Burial." It explodes into one of the hot jams of the night, featuring a funky bass line and fiery guitar. The jam segues into the Christine Lanfranco penned "Worlds Of Confusion" off the duo's collaborative album "Slice." Jed slows things down for a minute with the movie soundtrack instrumental "Outside Looking In," before geting serious again with the Phish song "Ghost." It's a great version of the eerie song, complete with thermain treatments and a patient jam that grows to a blissful peak. Jed wraps up the set with a pair of his originals, the reflective "Time And Tide," and the darkly humourous "Throw It Down The Hill."
Second set opens in typical Jed style with a 22+ minute "Victim Of The Rhythm," paired with another Memorial Day themed tune, "Bring Our Brothers Home," off Jed's 2010 "All At Once" album. The Kenny Kaufman song "Saw Mill River" swells mid-set, overflowing into Jed's percussive instrumental "Valley Of The Saints," before receding back into a rapid Saw Mill reprise. "Ungratefully Dead," an interesting little ditty written by Jed's dad is up next and it's followed quickly with the set closer, the title track from the "All At Once" album. A two song encore features the Beatle's "Octopuses Garden," in honor of the venue, and the always popular ender Phish's "Suzy Greenberg."
This is a really good show at a friendly venue with fanatastic energy, a solid setlist, a few hot jams and an overall great vibe. Phish phans will definitely wanna check out the "Ghost" here and Jed heads will enjoy classic Jed jams in "Friendly Burial" and VOTR. Those JLB'ers out there will particulary like the SMR>VOTS combo.
