The Jed Luckless EuroTour hits the United Kingdom for the first of two back-to-back shows in the UK! This one took place on May 22, 2020 at New Brighton Pier, a favorite on Europe Tour and "one of the most beautiful theaters in Secondlife" according to Jed. It was a 4pm EST start time, so Jed opens the show aptly with his little ditty "Quarter To Four" before kicking right into the first "Ozone Blues" of the tour. The sci-fi tune keeps getting more and more appropriate it seems. It's followed by a rarer tune called "Hurtful Things" a reggae type tune with a message. The first serious jam of the night comes night, out of the 2010 cut off Jed's All At Once album "On The Shelf." It's a intense jam featuring rhythmic cowbell and biting guitar riffs that ascend into ambient tremolo before transitioning to a Cailidgh Spires cover called "Stuff To Do," a song played for the first time by Jed. It's a mellowed version of an otherwise upbeat song. Jed closes the set with another cover song, this time the nostalgic Mark Gutenplan song "FM Rock" with a wicked Yes 'Tempus Fugit' tease at the end. Second set opens nicely with the rhytmic "Each And Every Day," which Jed opens up into a lenghty multi-segment jam that has a rocking backbeat and features guitar leads, piano and theramin. It transitions smoothly into the semi-instrumental "Umbrella Man," which is followed by the GuRGLe-era blueser "Black Molly" about the 'harlot of the fish bowl.' Jed digs deep one more time in the set with "The 86" with its transcendent solo section and a nice long, organ driven jam that segues into the pretty and poignant "Some Notes On Lying." The epic psalm based "Twelve" is next with it's powerful prog-rock end segment, followed by the upbeat "Slipping Through My Hands" set closer. Jed tacks on the song once referred to as his 'theme,' the classic rocker "Hard To Handle." This is a great show from Jed's EuroTour 2020 at one of his favorite theaters to play and it has good energy, a varied and interesting setlist, a couple top-notch jams and a few fun covers. Enjoy!
