The Jed Luckless Band's JLB2020 run continues with live original rock & roll on the first Tuesday of every month all year long, in Secondlife and live on Facebook! This is the second "debate" of the run, which occured one day after President Trump's acquittal and on the night of his "State of the Union" address. This makes for some strange energies that the band channels right into the performance. Bass player Kenny Kaufman "didn't qualify" for this one, so he's subbed for with "Big Dave" Kessler, who does an amazing job seamless joining in on the band's originals and rockin the classic covers. The show opens with a Mark Gutenplan song, "Englishtown," and the band takes it into a nice jam right out of gate, before a fantastic segue into the Beatles "Dear Prudence." Jed's cautionary original "Moved To The Country" is up next, followed by the Bob Dylan song "All Along the Watchtower" which produces one of of night's hottest jams before an awkward transition into a fun version of the Grateful Dead's "Friend Of The Devil." The set wraps up with another classic rock cover "Ohio" and a rare slow version of Jed's pop rock "Still In Luv With U." Second set opens with "Victim of The Rhythm" (second time in as many shows), and although it's not the best version of the song, it has a bigger purpose, which is producing the longest and most interesting segment of the evening, a 15 minute drum-infused space force jam that incorporates live audio from Trump's state of the union address. Pete Martine does an incredible job leading the way on the kit, with Jed on conga and perucssion and Mark and Dave on maracas and tambourines. The drums give way to a dark spacey moment and a brief jam before the band shifts into another Grateful Dead song, "loser," which the deliver with a nice groove. Mark's nostalgic "Remember This Night" keeps things goin and features a dynamic jam that fizzles into "Hotel Window" by String Cheese Incident, which Jed dedicates to Enola Vaher, the Virtual Hotel Proprietor who recently passed away. It's a sad but powerful rendition. The band lightens things up again with one last Dead tune, a fun romp through "Good Lovin, followed by a nice encore, a JGB inspired version of "After Midnight" complete with Eleanor Rigby tease. This is fun and interesting JLB show with a unique energy and a range of emotions. It features a fun mix of covers and originals, a few nice jams and a five song second set. The VOTR "drums and space" segment is a highlight with the Trump audio clips putting a real historical timestamp on the performance. "Big Dave" does a great job sitting on bass and this is definitely a JLB2020 show worth giving a listen to. Enjoy!
