It's the first annual Phish Bowl, Jed's celebration of football and Phish! This was the first full Phish show Jed ever performed, and you can tell that some of the tunes are first time attempts. Mos tof them work, and as always Jed fills them in with his unique jams and fun presentation. The show is set up just like the Super Bowl, and thus starts out with Jed singing the National Anthem. Since it's one of the hardest pieces of music that exists to sing, we'll skip the critique and just say god bless America. As we mentioned he fills this with fun by following his rendition with audio of jets flying overhead and fireworks exploding. The first set starts off ambitiously with Wilson, and it takes until the jam for Jed to get warm. He settles into a nice Boogie On Reggae Woman jam, followed by Three Little Birds in honor of Bob Marley's birthday. The higlight of the set is an AC/DC Bag that leads into Jed on drums. Halftime featured the presentation of the Phish Bowl trophy for best Phish show of 2009, which honor went to the 12/2/09 show at MSG. Second set starts off with a rockin Runaway Jim and features a nice first attempt at Cavern. The higlight is probably the Fluffhead which Jed adapts and uses to sandwich drums, space, a Reba jam, Funky Bitch and Joy. A sweet Fast Enough > Suzie encore tops off a historic Jed show and the first of many Phish performances to come.
